New England was a political leader during both the American and Industrial revolutions. Yet, despite sitting at the head of these major developments, New England, in 1810, had no facility to provide around the clock medical care to the general public. Reverend John Bartlett, however, dreamed of establishing a hospital to make state-of-the-art medical care available to the ill and to provide improved opportunities for practical medical education. In 1811, Reverend Bartlett’s dream hospital was established. Massachusetts General Hospital sustains his vision of innovation and it remains as one of its core values to this day.
