In the second half of the 1960s, many young people began to revolt against the conservative norms of the time creating a counterculture that sparked a social revolution across the Western world. In the fall of 1971, one such small group of individuals known as the Don’t Make a Wave Committee set sail from Canada to stop a nuclear test about to occur in Amchitka. After the ad hoc Don’t Make a Wave Committee had achieved its goals, some of its founders reconstituted themselves as the Greenpeace Foundation.
